The unity candle is one of the most familiar additions to the marriage ceremony. It's a great way to show the joining of the couple, & also works very well in family blending ceremonies. Plus I love bringing light to any occasion!
The candle is lit by the couple from 2 separate tapers, representing their families & the fact that the couple are beginning a new life of their own. Often the tapers are lit by the mothers or grandmothers of the bride & groom, & the couple then uses the lit "family" tapers to light their own. (Dads can get in on it, too!)
In a family blending ceremony, each of the participants have their own candle, & light the central candle together.
If your ceremony is outdoors, I do recommend a hurricane shield for the main candle.

“Selena, thank you so much for being part of our special day, & for taking the time to work out the details of our ceremony over the phone.
Today you have brought together two persons who truly love each other. Bless you!”
