The "Cord of 3 Strands", also known as "God's Knot", is a wonderful way to show the true meaning of bible verse Ecclesiastes 4:12: "And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken."
The Cord of Three Strands symbolizes the joining of one man, one woman, and God into a marriage relationship. The traditional three colors are gold, white & purple. Gold represents God, purple the majesty of the groom, white the purity of the bride. I've also seen couples adapt this slightly to use 3 of their wedding colors, or 3 cords of all white.
Here's a pix from a ceremony I officiated at Pond Mountain, May 2015; the groom made the cross for the Cord of 3 Strands out of pony shoes! Wonderfully clever & romantic rustic.

“Selena, this quote from Max Lucado sums it up – ‘when God made you, He must have known how much your faith would make a difference in the many lives you’d touch. Thank you for all the ways you share His love.’
